A long time ago in a galaxy far far away

Thirteen and half years ago, I started a blog. Silly me, I thought I could make a difference in knocking down, or punching holes in, a media-driven theme that "Haditha" was going to be the next "Abu Graib" or even "My Lai." Well, with or without me, the Haditha story died down, the caravan moved on...

Was is the right thing to do, or not? I'm not sure. There's no way to paint a pretty picture of Haditha. Still, it was not indicative of the military, in general.

When my son was in Iraq for all of 2004, a big part of my identity was that of a patriotic "support the troops" mom. I kept that identity for a long time, through 2006 when the Haditha incident came to light, and even through 2009 when a nephew was deployed to Afghanistan.

I didn't take kindly to what I perceived as blanket criticism of the troops by the "mainstream media" in an effort to further their bias against President Bush.

We got a new president in 2008. Did the criticism of Bush's troops diminish? Or were Obama's troops now heroes? Frankly, I stopped counting slights against the troops.

The Tea Party movement started in 2009. Now, they were the target of the "mainstream media's" scorn.

Different dogs were barking, but the caravan moved on...

Nearly to oblivion.
